The MD Advocacy Group was conceived of by Denise Pipersburgh in early 2024.
Although having practiced law since 2002, she had very little experience or interaction with the criminal justice system. However, her eyes were opened to the desperate plight of several individuals who have been in prison for over 25 years where the bases for their convictions were dubious at best.
In each circumstance, the individuals had exhausted all appeals and were either fighting alone for their exoneration or had given up hope of ever being released from the wrongful conviction. And in each case, what was needed was a voice from outside the Prison Walls to add to their own in seeking long awaited justice.
And so she became that voice, advocating to state officials on behalf of the individual for an independent and impartial review of his conviction as well as reaching out to the community for support in achieving exoneration.
Soon joined in her efforts by other like-minded individuals with varying life experiences and skill sets, the MD Advocacy Group was born.
